To all Small Boat Enthusiasts:
It’s moving along… slowly… but we hope to see the P/Q Dock Hoist approved for testing and then use in the very near future. There has been a snag and it is being worked out.
See the note below, received today from Jenkins Dossen the project manager for the P/Q Dock project. He has been working diligently to help us get to a community testing stage.
*************************
Hi All,
Status Update on Docks P/Q Small Craft Launch. The facility is partly complete but has one outstanding complication preventing issuance of substantial completion. This complication involves obtaining approved certification (UL) on the hoist control assembly (control box). Once the hoist control assembly is certified by an OSHA approved testing lab the WA State Dept of Labor & Industries will sign-off on the project. The Port is pursuing this issue with the project general contractor for a quick resolution to have the launch facility opened for use. The Port will keep you informed as we proceed with the control box approval process.
Thank you.

Once this issue is resolved we will be scheduling a weekend test launch with several different types of boats for fine tuning. Shortly thereafter we hope to see a community gathering and ribbon cutting for celebration of a long awaited result… the ability for small boats to get on the waters of Fidalgo Bay easily.
In addition the ASBC Business Plan group continues to work towards an interim business plan that will be presented to the Port in a short time. With this plan, we anticipate the approval of a temporary small boat storage facility and launch program in the North Basin.
What a summer we should see!
